The church in Los Angeles is for the serious Christian. It teaches in depth spirituality, and pretty much sound doctrine allowing for the normal differences among Protestant sects. Their hymns are deep, beautiful and full of meaning. They are for the most part a happy group striving with all their mind to seek after Jesus.



The downside is that they are like a clique. You have to conform to everything and believe everything you read or you are out. Most of them have been together for a very long time. There is a sense that they are better than any other church group and better than most of Christianity in general, so they are a bit proud, narrow and closed off. You really shouldn't be reading books that are not approved, or go to any other church services besides theirs unless it is for a wedding or funeral. They won't say anything, but their disapproval is obvious.



They also may disapprove of you if you have some gross past sins or you use bad language and so on. They will become afraid if they find out, and tell you to leave. One said,"There are other churches for people like that." They want fine people to join their group--quite a few are intellectual introverts and because they are introverts, they are deeper, but they can't handle a lot of variation among people--especially bad language or whatever the Bible calls sin. Many don't even have a TV at home so are not exposed to a lot of evil. This is not the place for beginners who want one foot in the world and one foot in heaven. If you have a proper job and a proper family, or want to seek God with all your heart, you are more likely to be welcomed and appreciated.



They are a worldwide group so if you like their meetings here, you will like their meetings and feel at home wherever you travel. They all cover about the same topics--the topics of their latest conferences, and the latest meditation book that has come out which takes you through part of the Bible.



They have a lot of great ideas, but many are not lived, just believed. A great many are lived too, but just not all. However, everyone there is doing the best they can to follow Jesus to the utmost.



All in all, if you can keep your humility and openness so as not to get caught in the cultish aspects, it would probably do a person a ton of good to learn from this group. They make a lot of good points that most Christians should know about, and they know how to help a person grow spiritually. If you are tired of watered down Christianity and want to deepen your life with Jesus a little more intensely, or if you are an intellectual introvert yourself, you might want to check them out.
