Chris Saper commission portrait artist says "For hundreds of years the painted portrait has been a tradition of love, honor, and respect. It's not a photograph nor produced by machine. Rather, it's a unique piece of original art rendered by an artist's hand."
Over the past 20 years, Chris Saper has delivered nearly 300 commissioned portraits to business and family clients nationwide. "It's a privilege and a pleasure," she says, "to work with each client to capture my subject's personality and character and to produce a treasured piece of original art to be enjoyed by generations to come." Using classical, museum quality techniques and materials, Saper utilizes photography sittings and collaborative approaches to ensure that each painting is tailored to meet the client's vision.
Procedure
"Because I work from photos, the inconvenience and often expense associated with sittings can be avoided. Whenever possible, I prefer to take my own photographs since my needs for composition and lighting aren't usually met by commercial photography.
"Photos are taken at my studio, your home or other settings as required; it's not unusual to shoot over 100 frames. I'll provide recommendations but I encourage your participation as well.
"Sometimes I need to work with photos you have on hand or to assist you or your photographer in providing me the very best possible images; I can help make this process easy for you.
"Once the resource material is selected you'll determine the medium and the size and therefore the price.
"As the painting approaches completion, I'll ask you to participate in a "proofreading review" so that any necessary adjustments to the likeness can be made to your satisfaction.
"Delivery arrangements are made in consultation with you. In general you can expect your portrait's completion about 6-8 months from the sitting date, but turnaround times vary during the year. I make every effort to accommodate a delivery for a special event."
