"This is one groovy place - better-than-restored with decor that's bold, eclectic, opulent and inviting. A delightful place with secluded garden, hilltop privacy, yet great urban access."
--- The Unofficial Guide to Bed & Breakfasts in the Northwest

Perched on a hill overlooking Puget Sound, this 1889 Grand Victorian Estate offers Seattle-Tacoma weekend getaway bed and breakfast suites, boutique hotel ambiance, incredible breakfasts and cheerful hospitality.

Seattle boutique hotel suites: views, fireplaces, Jacuzzis, guest cottage.

Offering world-class Seattle bed breakfast lodging in downtown Tacoma at affordable rates since 1996, Chinaberry Hill continues to be a favorite of the Seattle Tacoma hotels and B&B lodging choices for business and vacation travelers, as well as the local Seattle Tacoma romantic getaway weekend crowd. One-of-a-kind antiques, super comfortable beds, our mattress sets won the all-time product award at Bon Macys - no hotel mattresses here, incredible breakfasts and cheerful hospitality are part of what keeps our guests coming back. Downtown shops and theaters, waterfront restaurants and Tacoma's Antique Row are just a few blocks from this remarkable garden retreat.

Retro Victorian Ambiance and Coffeehouse Cool

A long-time local favorite of Pacific Northwest and Seattle travel writers, this 1889 Grand Victorian bed and breakfast hotel has been featured in several Seattle vacation travel publications, including Conde Nast Traveler, Sunset Magazine, Travel & Leisure, Northwest Best Places, Fodor's, Amazing Getaways, Seattle Magazine and Romantic Days and Nights in Seattle.

"Amid the stately old homes of Tacoma's Stadium Historic District, this grand Victorian home has luxurious guest rooms and commanding views of Puget Sound and Commencement Bay... Beautiful century-old trees shade the grounds. Classic Northwest elegance makes this one of the finest inns in the state." --- Frommer's Travel Guide

Surrounded by cascading greenery, lovely 100+ yr trees - including the oldest known native cherry tree specimen of its kind in the state of Washington (Prunus Pugetensis for those of you who need to know) - and wonderful views of the water below, you may forget that your hilltop garden hideaway is actually an urban inn.

Hearty breakfasts & serious coffee

Breakfasts are multi-course made-from-scratch feasts. We are happy to accommodate special dietary needs, e.g. vegetarian, gluten-free, vegan, allergies -- and just plain, I don't like eggs.

We serve a full-bodied, fresh ground, serious coffee, fresh orange juice, large fresh fruit dishes, followed with a main course and yummy side dishes. Sample menus include buttermilk blueberry pancakes (no mixes here) or orange croissant french toast served with eggs and bacon, green chili quiche with garlic potatoes, mango peach salsa and peppercrust bacon. Yum!

A place of the heart

It is not unusual to have return guests staying at Chinaberry Hill on any given week (some from as far back as our opening year - !!). We appreciate such loyalty from our guests and we endeavor to make sure that your twentieth visit is just as fun, personal and memorable as your first.

We know why you have a favorite coffee house or restaurant, a well-loved book or music that fits your mood. We want to be your favorite place to stay when you're in the Northwest. It's that simple.

Not what we expected

by flname1234 , 06/30/2010

We have been to a number of B&Bs in Washington and have never been as disappointed as we were during our stay at Chinaberry Hill B&B. The clawfoot tub in our unit was covered in brown soap scum and filth. We were shocked at their complete lack of attention to cleanliness. Moreover we had discussed dietary restrictions with them prior to our stay and they made it sound as if it wasn't a problem at all. Breakfast, however, was a different story as it contained the allergens we had discussed with them previously. It was tough for my husband to find the time off and it was also an anniversary getaway. We feel duped and believe the stay was a waste of our hard-earned money. Please consider going somewhere where more attention is paid to detail.

Response from Business - 08/15/2010
We are sorry to hear that we missed the opportunity to make your stay most wonderful. Accommodating special dietary requirements is an important part of the services we provide to our guests. We are always looking for great recipes (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, diabetic, non-dairy, low-carb, etc.) to add to our repertoire -- and of course, we're happy to share our finds/creations with others upon request. :) We ask for dietary requirements twice, once when we take your reservation and again, upon check-in to avoid a possible oversight (we find it helpful as people sometimes learn about an allergy between the time they book and when they arrive or they might overlook an allergy when asked by phone, but will remember when asked in person). We've depended on this duo-system to catch all of the relevant information for our guest stays, but somehow your dietary needs managed to slip by both of our dietary “checkpoints” – again, our sincere apologies for our oversight. Regarding the condition of the clawfoot soaking tub, you may be referring to the granulated sand finish added to our clawfoot tubs to prevent guests from slipping. The older enameled clawfoot tubs can be more slippery than newer models (the same extra deep luxuriousness of the clawfoot soaking tub also makes it difficult to enter and exit, especially with wet feet). Again, our apologies that we were not able to make your stay memorable in the good way. We appreciate you letting us know about your experience so that we may improve upon our service and we hope that you'll give us another chance to earn your respect and valued business.
