Each year Children’s Home Aid serves nearly 40,000 children and families in need. Through its dedicated team of volunteers and staff who deliver more than 70 comprehensive social service programs throughout 40 Illinois counties, Children’s Home Aid helps children and families overcome the overwhelming obstacles of poverty, abuse and neglect. Children’s Home Aid is a compassionate advocate for the welfare of children and families. It is recognized as a leading social service agency because it continues to provide quality services to children and families, helping them to achieve healthy family structures and self-sufficiency.
Adoption Services
Children’s Home Aid has provided adoption services to children and families since 1883. Last year alone, nearly 300 children and families were affected by our adoption preservation services. More than 100 children annually are adopted through Children’s Home Aid programs.
There are many children waiting for permanent homes with loving mothers and fathers to care for them. Some are under the protection of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and range in age from infant to 18 years. Some of these children need special medical care or have developmental, emotional, or physical needs. There are brothers and sisters who need to stay together.
The experienced Children’s Home Aid adoption case workers carefully match prospective parents with children based on the individual needs of the child and the parent’s capabilities. These professionals serve to guide and support parents through the entire adoption process and beyond.
Foster Care
Foster Care services provide safe, secure and nurturing homes for children who have been separated from the care of their biological families. When families are unable to care for their children, Children’s Home Aid works to find suitable homes for them with foster parents who can provide the appropriate care based on the children’s individual needs.
Each year, Children’s Home Aid provides Foster Care services to more than 1,000 children who need to be placed in foster homes because their biological families are in crisis and are unable to provide for them. There are many children who need loving homes. Unfortunately, there are more than 16,000 foster children throughout Illinois and not enough foster parents.
You can make a difference in a child’s life by opening your home and heart to a child who needs your loving care.
Counseling
Children’s Home Aid Child and Family Counseling programs provide extra support, guidance, and positive experiences to youth of all ages, races, and cultural backgrounds. These programs help children and families make positive changes in their lives, maximize their potential, and improve their function in society.
Child and Family Counseling services offered through Children’s Home Aid help children stay out of trouble, improve school performance, and ultimately prevent children from entering the juvenile justice system. Programs for pregnant teens and single moms facing unplanned pregnancies provide parenting education while at the same time reduce the risk of abuse and neglect.
