Mary began the session by telling my son that he had no choices. She did not allow him to give any input or express concerns. He was very upset leaving the session and now refuses to see any counselor. I know there are good counselors in this office and they come highly recommended but Ms. Hilliard is NOT one of them. I would not let her speak to my plants.
Mary Hilliard Parental Communication Sessions
by Divorced Father , 03/14/2011
I had placed in my Divorce Decree, that I filed, that my soon to be ex-wife and I would obtain communication counseling for one year, regarding our ten-year-old son, since my ex-wife was refusing to answer emails, phone calls, etc. I had it place in the decree that we would seek professional help. Our first meeting my ex-wife never showed, called, wrote, nor made any other attempt to notify that she would not be attending the scheduled appointment. On the second attempt, my ex-wife did show, and Mary Hilliard attacked me as the bad person. She mimicked my hand gestures, belittled me in front of my ex-wife, and allowed my ex-wife to play the victim. I have other choices, since this was originally set up by me, and I will seek those out. Do NOT allow yourself to be belittled by ANY professional that you are seeking for assitance. That is just low self-esteem, disrespectful, and demeaning. You are the one paying the bill, you are the one who decides who will be assiting you.
Happy with results

My kids have seen Dr. Pottebaum periodically for years and enjoy the time with her and she has been able to help with issues and/or confirm everything was going fine with them and how they were. I have also used Mary Hilliard as a neutral third party for parenting issues and there is no sugar coating or taking sides. Sometimes she may agree with what you say and at others agree with the ex spouse but ultimately I felt her position was unbiased and fair.
Professional and Caring People

My kids have gone there for treatment for years, for both medication management and counseling. The staff is very professional and courteous, and the care provided there is extremely good. Dr Kunze is attentive to parental concerns and addresses them in a timely fashion. He asks the children for their input, which I feel is very important because it lets them know that their opinions are valued. The late Dave Cowny was my oldest son's counselor for over a year, and worked with him through a very difficult time in his life. Diane Palmer has treated my daughter and is very compassionate; I know the rest of the staff there are just as impressive. Appointments are almost always right on time, very rarely have they been running late. If you are looking for the best care possible for your child's mental health, I would highly recommend Child Psychiatry Associates!
