Omg the best chile relleno I've ever had, this place is great and service was good! I can't believe some of the negative reviews, I would really have to believe they are from competitors trying to bash them.

This is by far the WORST mexican food I have ever eaten. The service was nice, but the food had absolutely no flavor and was not put together properly.I do not know how this restaurant is still in business. Save your money and spend it on a real restaurant

Surprised at the negative reviews, try it out, my family loves it!!

Went to use the restroom and they have a continous cloth towel like the type you use to see in auto shop in the 50's.. Not to sanitary. Food was greasy and tasteless. Bad service with high price. Will not visit again.

Well I got stuck going to this place be request of a friend so I decided to give it another chance...... Obviously the last review was written by the owner.. You walk into this restuarant at night and they have the lights turned down really low and it has a damp musty smell going on. The drinks are very very over priced and service is very slow. The staff is more interested in having fun with each other than serving you. The food tastes like it is right out of the can.. Greasy and bland. Mexican or for our last poster "Hispanic" food is know for its taste and seasoning this place does not have that. The claim to fame is that the cheese they put on top or your food is in the shape of a chili pepper. JIMENEZ yes is a hispanic name but perhaps a coconut name meaning they grew up here in Yorkville.. While dining you constantly see people walk in and walk right out. It's that bad! Save your money! One more thing as far as the chips they taste like chips that were bought from Aldi!!

I am in love with this place!!! Very Authentic cuisine (coming from hispanic origin! Reminded me of my Walita's food!!!) Guacomole was to die for!!! Also Service was spectacular...chips and salsa always on the table and full!!! We never went without food in our mouths the entire time we were there =) - Be sure to ask for the salsa verde..It is hot hot hot with flavor flavor flavor!!! Decor was very cute..and I felt like they appreciated my business and tried to make my visit very pleasant...We will be back!!!

I am sure the two negative reviews were made by a competitor. Probably that poor excuse for quality Mexican food Pepe's. This place has great food and drinks. I have never had a bad experience there. Owned and operated by a local family. They take great pride in what they make and serve. Great specials can be found if you are looking for deals. They have great authentic chips and will make their old ones that they took off the menu because they are greasy, but man they are good. I always have them make them for us. All in all the food is great and margarita's are very tasty as well. I go there almost once a week and will never change. Go check this place out. You will like it for sure.

I would have to disagree with the two negative reviews on this site. Casa santiagos has great food and an awesome homely atmosphere. The staff is always so warn and welcoming and has tons of regulars. Pepes and taco bell is not real mexican food so of course if you like that it may be unexpected. And indeed their are "mexican" people cooking, which by the way the correct termonology is hispanic, infact if you looked at the top of this page you would have seen the last name is JIMENEZ!! So the people that wrote these reviews are obviously ignorant and unintelligant. Its a family sit down restaurant with reasonable prices, for being so brutal on the decor youd think the review would be for mortons. Please dont judge by these ridiculous reviews, these people dont know what theyre talking about because the chips are made right there and not greasy at all. And also the burritos come with meat cheese AND beans which is the authentic way to serve them. If youre that picky about "grease"

We started out with over-priced beer, then got our chips that were glistening with grease - yuck! Then we got the queso fundido appitizer, which also had a layer of grease over it. My husband ordered the burrito, which only came with meat in it. If you wanted lettuce, tomato, etc., it was an additional $1.50. WHAT?? And the food was bland. At a place like Chili's, I expect mild food since they have a wide range of things on their menu, therefore a wide spectrum of people to please. When you go to a place that is supposed to specialize in mexican food, I want spice. This stuff just tasted like salt and peppered meat, nothing else to it. I really had high hopes since there aren't many nice sit-down restaurants in Yorkville, but no luck. I'll still be frquenting Pepe's for my mexican food. . .

We love this place, they have the best Margaritas in town, the chips are homemade and wonderful. We have tried several items on the menu and have been very happy with all of them. Service is tremendous, the atmosphere is cozy, it is always clean. We frequent this restaurant at least once a week, we just love it. It is a bit hard to find because it is a block east of 47, but well worth the hunt.

Sat on top of a puddle at "The Big Table" next to the front window. Served store bought chips with salsa that has been water downed several several times! Served soda that tasted like pure syrup. Ordered nacho platter and came out with melted sliced cheese that looked like swiss cheese but minus the flavor!! Asked for a refill and was told THEY CHARGE for refills!! This has to be the only restaurant in Yorkville that charges for refills. In the corner by our table there were several planters that looked like tomatoe plants that were outside all summer but were brought in when it started getting cold out next to some potted plants with the price tags still on!! Food was horrible! Tasted and looked like it was defrosted and microwaved! Worst Mexican food I have ever ate! Taco Bell puts this place to shame! Would be surprised if anyone of the mexican decent cooked this food! Save your money this place will not last. Atmosphere seemed like more of a dirty dark damp bar than a restaurant!

I thought the food was generic for what was supposed to be "authentic" mexican food. Service was decent...the area we sat in smelled musty...I'm not a big Pepe's fan but if we had to choose...we'd choose Pepe's - NOT casa santiago...! We even gave it a second and third chance thinking maybe it was a off night...not the case!
