You have to use your ship card for all purchases on board. You sign for your purchases. The Carnival Staff frequently takes your ship card our of your sight to process a tranaction: drinks, shops, casino, etc. You think all is ok, At the end, you'll find extra charges that they stick in, hoping you don't notice. They don't care if they don't have your signature, they just demand payment. They hire thieves, and the rest of their personnel cover for them. Customer service through Carnival is the worst. Avoid this cruise line like the plague.
