Welcome to Capernaum Pediatric Therapy! In business since 1981, Capernaum believes that all life has value and is worthy of respect; thus, staff members focus on the individual needs of each child and his or her family and on helping them find joy in their journey together. Capernaum provides pediatric physical, occupational, and speech-language therapy services for children, ages birth to 21 years. Our service settings include outpatient clinics (in Edina, New Hope and Big Lake), pools, schools, pediatric hospitals, homes, daycares and group homes in the seven-county Twin Cities Metro area.
Capernaum therapists use a play-based, sensorimotor approach to help children achieve developmental milestones and maximize their functional potential. Our creative groups and programs provide your child with wonderful opportunities for typical childhood experiences that build self-esteem and encourage social/emotional development. Therapists treat a wide variety of diagnoses and developmental challenges and are clever at making treatment feel like play!
Children come to physical therapy to learn to move better! Physical therapists work on strength, balance, coordination, and mobility to help kids develop and progress towards goals that are individually made for them. Families are empowered with strategies to use in the home and community, thereby making the child’s whole daily routine therapeutic. Our Adaptive Dance and “Gaining the Edge” programs provide fun opportunities to build self-esteem, make friends, and gain motor skills.
Children come to Capernaum’s speech language pathologists (SLP) to learn to better communicate their wants and needs and to achieve their individually designed goals. Some areas the SLPs work on are articulation skills, language development, and oral motor/feeding issues. Capernaum’s speech language pathologists encourage the development of communication skills in a wide variety of play-based activities
Participation in Capernaum’s social skills groups, “Little Language Learners”, “Kids on Stage!!!,” and “Fun with Food” groups, allows children to generalize communication and feeding skills learned in therapy, make friends, and gain confidence.
Children come to Capernaum’s occupational therapists to learn how to perform activities of daily living (dressing, eating, handwriting, etc), interact socially, and cope with the sensory stimulation within their environment. They use sensory integration techniques, fine and gross motor strengthening/coordination, and visual motor/visual perceptual strategies, to achieve the child’s individually designed goals. Children benefit from Capernaum’s social skills groups, “Kids on Stage!!!,” “Learning to Write Right” and “Ready, Set, Write” handwriting classes, Independent Living Skills program for Teens and Young Adults, Youth Community Service Group, “Fun with Food” feeding group, and “Crafty Kitchen Camp.” These extracurricular groups target specific challenges in a dynamic social environment.
Capernaum has many experienced therapists who are great speakers! We’ve presented to multiple organizations including medical clinics, support groups for families of special needs kids, schools/charter schools, insurance companies, universities and professional conferences. We’d be delighted to come to your facility (or use one of our clinics) to present on the topic of your choice.
