Because they're they only cable company in town, they do whatever they want. My internet service was shut off "accidentally" and was down for two days. Before I knew that it was shut off, I drove down to the office to get a new modem, thinking this might be the issue. This did not work. I had to get a service tech to come to my house. I ended up having to take time off of work for the tech to tell me it was "accidentally shut off." I didn't get any sort of discount on my bill for the inconvenience and time taken off of work for THEIR mistake. About a year ago, when I had my service turned on, they didn't show up until 3 hours after they were scheduled to. I have spoken to managers and they just don't seem to care. They'd rather lose a customer than to take $25 off of my bill for my time off of work, time taken to drive to their office, and 3 days of lost internet. If you can deal with satellite TV, regular phone and/or cell, and use DSL, I would recommend you avoid them.
