I have 4 pets that go to Bit and Spur Animal Hospital, and have been going there since before they moved into their new hospital. The staff and the Veterinarians always show the utmost care for all my pets. I have recomended numerous people to them for veterinary care, andd everyone has reported back the same way- they loved it. I have called other veterinary clinics to check prices and they are always very close in price , and yet offer the most service for my dollar- such as walking my pets at 10 pm when no other veterinary clinic does. I will continue to recomend them to all my friends.

Yeah it looks nice, but your bill will show you why they can afford to keep it that way!



I have been using Bit and Spur for the last year and a half since I have lived here. I had been happy with the appearance of their facility and how nice the staff has been. These are true statements but they have lost my business as they have taken advantage of me by charging for unnecessary items.



I scheduled for my dog to be dropped off 12/24 and to be picked back up on 1/1. When I dropped her off I was aware she needed her kennel cough vaccination as the person who took the reservation had informed me. They said they would be able to give this to her during her stay. When I dropped her off I informed them I would be out of the country and not have cell phone service and gave them another emergency number. I instructed them that if something were to happen to her though, to take do what needed to be done. When I went to pick her up on 1/1, the door had a sign stating they were closed. I called and left a message letting them know I was very upset that I had not been informed and I left my number for them to return my call. I had to wait until after work on 1/2 to pick her up and had never received a phone call from Bit & Spur in response to my message. When I picked her up nobody even mentioned my message.



When I went to check out, they were showing me her vaccination sheet and I saw a list of other items in addition to the kennel cough. There was an additional vaccination as well as a number of other items which totaled $170! I asked them what all the charges were for and they said she had been due for her annual exam so they did blood work, fecal test, some other vaccination, on top of a $41 fee for the vet just to look at my dog. My dog was just in there two months ago for a skin rash (which she has been in for 2 or 3 other times for the same thing within the year and they've charged me for a vet fee every time even though it's been the same thing), and they checked everything out then! I am sure the vet tech is the one who gave her the vaccination so there was no need for the vet to even need to look at her. When I spoke with the vet she informed be that they're required to have their boarded dogs up to date on vaccinations. I am fully aware of this and I informed her that I had no problem with that but the two vaccinations would have totaled $31, not $170! The vet then said she had instructions that said "owner authorized whatever needs to be done". That was in the context as in if she got loose and was hit by a car or was attacked by another dog!! When I informed the vet of this she just looked at me and said she took that as a full work up. That's not my fault there was poor communication between the front desk staff and the vet. They did not give me any break or accept any ownership for the miscommunication. And on top of that, they raised the boarding price $5 a day without any notification. So that was an additional $50 right there I had not anticipated.



Obviously, not happy at all. They took advantage of the situation besides the fact that they are extremely over priced. I had been ok paying a little extra to feel like my pet was in a safe environment but I do not appreciate being taken advantage of. There are plenty of other fine vets and kennels in the area, don't waste your money here.

I am so disappointed. Although...

I am so disappointed. Although this is not my pet's vet, I took him to their boarding facility for the weekend. I specifically noted his special needs for his medication due to heart worms and allergies. They said they would definitely cater to that and would charge me $3/day medicinal dosage fee. I was excited when I pulled up as the facility itself is physically appealing and gave me comfort in knowing I was leaving my dog in a nice place. In person, I specifically went over all medications he needed to take, when he needed to take them, and supplied treats for the caretaker to put them in for easy swallowing. The receptionist was very kind and I watched her write notes on my dog's paper to alert the kennel attendant of what is to be done.

I picked my dog up this morning and took him home. I had my own doctor's appointment to go to, and when I got home I decided to count through his medicine to ensure he was given proper dosage due to his fragile state. To my dismay, HE WASN'T GIVEN ANY OF HIS MEDICINE!!! All of his treats were gone, but none of his pills were. I called and Wendy said that I wasn't charged a medicinal dosage fee and she would have the office manager call me back when she returns from lunch. I never received a phone call from anyone after that.

There is no excuse for this to happen! His medicine was in the same bag as his treats, therefore there is no way they could have been missed since all of his treats were gone. I am so livid that I could spit fire. This may cause complications with my dog's upcoming heart worm procedures as he has now missed 6 consecutive doses because of Bit & Spur's carelessness. Please do not take your pet to this facility. For their safety and your sanity! And because this happened, I really am questioning if they even walked him 4x a day like they said they would.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO BIT & SPUR VET HOSPITAL!!!

great hospital

This is a wonderful hospital. Dr Courtney is very compassionate and up to date . The hospital is so clean and the staff is first rate. I love them!!!
