The people of Bethany Lutheran Church and School believe, teach and confesse the “Gospel,” that Jesus of Nazareth was a real man who died on a real cross in real human history, but who didn't stay dead. This was because, as he said, he was the Christ, the King long promised by the God who created the universe, who would come to reign over all mankind by freeing us from our slavery to sin, death and the devil. By rising from the dead, he defeated death and earned the right to offer the free forgiveness of sins to you.
Committed to this good news as given to us in “Scripture alone,” we trust by “faith alone” in this total “grace alone” salvation for the sake of “Christ alone.” Jesus is God's once-for-all answer to the problem of evil, both in ourselves and in our world.
The Ancient Christianity taught at Bethany is:
Biblical - The Holy Scriptures of both the Old and New Testaments are the sole rule and standard on which all our doctrines our founded and teachers are judged.
Confessional - The historic symbols of the Lutheran Confessions found in the Book of Concord are esteemed among us as a faithful summary and expression of the perfect Truth taught in Holy Scriptures.
Sacramental - Because of our commitment to trusting the very texts of Scripture rather than man-made arguments and human reason, we rejoice in the benefits of Baptism, Holy Absolution, and the Lord's Supper, extolling them as the gravitational force that drives all authentic Christian Spirituality.
Liturgical - As the third commandment teaches, we strive in the fear and love of God to honor the preaching of God's Word and hold it sacred, gladly hearing and learning from it. To better accomplish this, we cling to the sacred patterns, prayers, songs and creeds which have stood the test of time as proven tools for teaching and feeding faith in our Lord Jesus.
Bethany Lutheran Church is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Syond, a historic Church body dedicated to faithfulness to the Scriptures and the heritage of the conservative Reformation.
