Description for American Southwest Credit Union

Located in Sierra Vista, Ariz., American Southwest Credit Union was chartered in 1955 under the name of Huachuca Federal Credit Union with a federal charter to serve the soldiers and government employees of Fort Huachuca. Since then, the Credit Union grew with its membership by amending its charter to include military retirees living in the Sierra Vista area, civil service employees and private contractors working on post. The Credit Union also had one merger in its history. In the early 90s, Huachuca Federal Credit Union merged with Border Federal Credit Union in Douglas, Arizona. Later, the charter was amended again to include city, county, state and federal employees in Cochise County. Another significant change came in March 2000 when the National Credit Union Administration approved an amendment to serve all those who live in, work in, worship in, and attend school in Cochise County.

On April 5, 2007, our Credit Union went through an extensive conversion process changing from a federal to a state charter. This also brought about our recent name change—American Southwest Credit Union. Now, Fort Huachuca and all of the residents of Cochise, Santa Cruz and southeastern Pima County can reap the benefits of credit union membership.

Reviews of American Southwest Credit Union

1 Dissapointment by Dee - 03/13/2013

I’m very disappointed with the treatment I receive from this Credit Union. I have been a member of this Credit Union for 10 + years and I have always receive impersonal service and a lack of information. To make a long story short, I recently went to the Credit Union to ask if they had Pre-Paid Cards. One of the representatives gave me the application to fill out. I notice that there was not a disclosure statement, and the representative stated that it would be sent to me via mail. I was under the impression that this was the Credit Union’s card! I notice that she knew nothing about this Card . I had such a bad feeling about this so I went back the next day and asked to speak to a manager and get a copy of the disclosure statement; in which the same Representative had to retrieve from the internet. This is not the Credit Union’s card! This Pre-Paid card have so many fees! It also state that they reserve the right to give your information to a third party. Unbelievable! No one in the Credit Union could provide me any information about the card. When I told her to cancel the card, she stated that I had to do it by calling the number on the disclosure statement; which also is a fee, so I did. The Customer Service representative stated that the Credit Union had to initiate the cancellation. What a mess! Now I have to wait until I get the card to cancel. I will send a letter to Customer Service for the card to cancel it and to not disclose any of my information. I’m so upset at myself for trusting them!

1 Insensitive, unsupportive by SV ofc when fraudulent VISA charges occurred in Dec 2011 by BZ - 01/14/2012

3 PINLESS VISA transactions $342 hit my checking acct. 17Dec11 before their Fraud Dept caught the 4th attempt. 19Dec11 I filed a dispute. Provisional credit not provided until 28Dec11 followed by a letter stating they had up to 90 days to rescind the credit depending on their investigation and what the merchants determine. That is not good customer support and does not instill confidence to me as a member. I will never have another VISA check card with them. I've been their customer for 10 years+ and first problem ever with this crime committed by someone in another state that somehow got my numbers to make their own card.

2 Service Going Downhill by Soon to be Former Customer - 12/26/2011

I've been a customer for 10 years and have an auto loan through them. The customer service at the main office gets worse every month. (On Ft. Huachuca it's pretty good.) Checks dropped in the night deposit may or may not be collected the next day. Phone support is practically non-existent. The online bill-pay is unreliable - you have to constantly check to make sure the scheduled payments are actually sent out, and when they're not the CU can't help directly because they don't run the software. I have to maintain at least a savings account with a $5 balance until the car is paid off. Another 4 months and it's all mine, and they are history.

1 auto loan customer by Disappointed in Sierra Vista - 08/22/2009

The loan officers at Southwest Credit Union were very inexperienced, every time we have purchased a vehicle in the past 4 years, there is a new staff of employees, handling the loan process. Does the Union not pay people enough money to stay? Very disappointed with the service and the loose ends caused unnecessarily by unqualified staff and their attitudes. Really need to revamp their department and give additional training to their staff, before they actually work with clients. The only saving grace for this branch is the competitive loan rates. Where are the supervisors??
