Description: The Les Turner ALS Foundation is a publicly supported, non-profit organization in Chicago devoted solely to the treatment and elimination of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's disease. The foundation was formed in1977 by the family of Les Turner, a Chicago businessman diagnosed with the disease in 1976. The founders wanted future ALS patients and families to have resources, support and hope.
Patients and their families are served through:
Home care and community service teams
Nurse consultants and social workers
Medical equipment loan banks
Respite grant program
Education videos and programs
Telephone and email support and referrals
The foundation is affiliated with Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine where it funds medical research and provides a patient service program at the Lois Insolia ALS Center.
