AA Callister Corp was started in 1952 by Arthur Callister Jr. His father had been in the wool business for years, so that is where he started: selling wool. He then noticed that his customers needed more than just wool, so he started stocking vet and livestock supplies.
Art, as he was known by, loved to ride horses. He was an active member in the Palomino Posse, and went riding as often as he could. When he realized that quality horse gear was difficult to come by, he decided to expand his store’s inventory to include gear for horses and their riders. Now, as you visit Salt Lake City and drive south along Redwood Road, you can’t miss the large, old western style building that now houses Art’s dream.
When you first walk in, you are greeted by a great sales staff eager to serve the people who love what they themselves do: horses and the western lifestyle. You can ask them questions about the horse and western world, and they will get the answer if they do not know the answer outright.
The store is set up in sections, or departments. The home décor area is set up like a big showroom, with decorating ideas everywhere. The gifts and toys are laid out so that you can find a gift for even the person that “has everything”. The boot and hat area is full of hundreds of pairs of boots and many styles of wool and beaver felt hats. The clothing area has jeans and tops for men, women, and children. It even has a section for men’s dress clothing, 1800’s period clothing, and work wear. Whether you are a simple country boy or a high-ranking exec, you can find the boots, hats, apparel, and accessories that you need there.
The tack area has rows of saddles, headstalls, reins, and everything that the rider needs to enjoy an afternoon ride or compete in the arena on their equine friend. There are supplies for your barn and trailer to help the trip go smoother. There are grooming supplies to keep your equine friend looking great. They carry Purina Feeds for horses, chickens, cats, and dogs, along with vaccines and supplements. They even have wound care products.
The roughstock rodeo crowd can find their gear and safety equipment. Team Ropers and Calf Ropers can find their favorite ropes. They even have Piggin and Goat Tying strings.
This modern store, with its old-west looks and old-fashioned service, stands ready to continue to serve the horse and western community. They have shipped products worldwide, including Australia, France, and Canada. They offer custom ordering for all of their customers. Whether you are the iconic cowboy or cowgirl of the old west or simply want to look and feel western, AA Callister Corp stands ready to show you what they have shown countless others: They have what you want for your horse, for you, the rider, and for your home.
