A couple of weeks ago, my mother woke to the sound of chain saws. Her neighbor, the men said, had paid Larry Gilliland to trim a tree near their property line. The problem was that the workers kept dropping large limbs onto healthy well-established yews that my mother had planted at the edge of her yard. When she asked them to stop, they yelled at her, asked if she was blind, and refused to stop causing damage. She is 78 years old, but she is not blind and she has carefully cultivated each plant in her yard. Finally, after it was clear that these workers had no intention of working with her to protect her landscaping, she called the police. When the police arrived, the workers stopped what they were doing, though my mother assures me that the trimming job was not complete.



Think twice before hiring anyone to trim trees who would belittle and intimidate a 78 year old woman in her own garden.
