Garfield Elementary School, located in Bell Gardens, Calif., serves students in kindergarten through grade four. Its educational program includes reading, writing, and mathematics and English language development. Additionally, it offers a variety of courses in social studies, science, fine arts and physical education. Its extracurricular activities include basketball and chess tournaments, after-school tutorials and accelerated reader. The after-school tutorial intervention program includes reading comprehension, vocabulary and English language development. The school also provides literacy tutor support to students in grade four. It has a full-time library media specialist aide and a half-time assessment clerk who serve the whole school. Garfield Elementary School is one of the schools governed by the Montebello Unified School District.
