Last night I went to the Shell gas station and put gas in our pick up. I then went back, took our van and decided to get a car wash. I got done, drove home and when I got out of the car, I noticed that my car still looked dirty. It had bugs on the front of the car, and the sides especially were pretty dirty. My son said "Take it back Mom and get your money back." I said "No, I don't want to do that." He said "You need to stick up for yourself, go do it!" So I took the van back to the Shell station and spoke to the worker. He was unsure what to do because he was not the boss. So he called her. The Owner asked me if I had taken a rag and wiped down my whole van before I went through the car wash? I said "No." she said "Well that is why your car did not get clean. You have to wipe it down first." She went on to say that if she gave me another free car wash and I didn't wipe down my car first that it wouldn't work again, cause I needed to wash down my car prior to using her car wash.

She stated that giving me back my money wasn't an option.

I told the man that I have three vehicles, and 8 children most of which are drivers. I spend well over $3,000 at the station per year, or have in the past. I will not be spending any money there again.

As I left, I shook my head. Really what the Shell station is selling is "Car Rinses." If I have to wash my car prior to getting it washed, then really I am not getting a car wash, I am getting a car rinse. Perhaps the owner could do one of two things:

She could have a sign out with a bucket of soapy water and a large mop for people to wash down their cars prior to going inside her car rinse.

OR

She could state on a large sign that she was actually selling car rinses, not car washes.

I won't die over not getting my money back. She won't lose her company cause one family won't shop there anymore, but one has to chuckle at the situation.

My children do a better job of washing my car on the front lawn, and while I don't pay them for the "Deluxe" car wash I paid the Shell station, at least SOME of my van gets clean and they have fun and I don't have to leave my house or talk to crazy people who don't know a car wash from a car rinse!
