Adventist Health System is a part of the worldwide organization of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The company was established in 1973 to oversee the operations of the Seventh-day Adventist Church s health care organizations in the Southern and Southwestern regions of the United States. Adventist Health is among the leaders in home health care. Its major home health car division, Sunbelt Home Health Care, manages hospital-based and free-standing agencies. Adventist also operates 24 extended-care facilities with more than 2,500 long-term care beds for patients who need additional medical and rehabilitation services. Adventist Health System's flagship organization is Florida Hospital, a 1,790-plus-bed tertiary care center with seven campuses in central Florida. Established in 1908, Florida Hospital is now the largest health care provider in central Florida and is one of the nation's leaders in cardiac care. It is also a provider of cancer care, neuroscience, orthopedics, organ transplantation, limb replantation, sports medicine, rehabilitation and women's medicine.
