Great owners who care about their customers. Great pizza that rivals the Riverview! Specials, nice crowd, great TVs for sports viewing, and treated like royalty if you have a special event. Really anxious to give this place a good reputation. Great neighborhood bar.

This place had a really great ...

This place had a really great reputation, so I'm very sorry to say that it has completely gone down the tubes. I wanted to take my sister and her mother out for a nice dinner, and that's where her mother wanted to go. She said that the last time she'd been there, the steak had been phenomenal and the blue cheese dressing was out of this world. That was before the anti-smoking laws were passed.

The chairs, menu, wine glasses and cutlery were dirty. The stuffing on the chairs felt like it was non-existant, the napkins were red bath towels with bleach stains on them.

The appetizer of mussels we had was actually very good, and it was clear that the chef knew how to cook. However, it was also painfully apparent that he had almost no fresh or high-quality ingredients to use. The mussels and the steamed brocolli that garnished our entrees were clearly the only fresh things on the menu. The asparagus soup tasted canned and was very salty. The salad was so-so, and the dressings were all old with films on the top. The bread was stale, the butter tasted like an old refrigerator. I had stuffed white fish (I believe it was tilapia). It was stuffed with tiny shrimp and crab cakes. The tiny shrimp were okay but they had not been de-veined. The fish it self was incredibly bland and had obviously been frozen. Despite this, it was clear that the chef had tried his or her best and treated it with care, but to no avail. The lake of butter on the plate could not account for the dryness of the fish. The crab cakes were by far the worst thing I ate that evening: it was like eating a mouthful of paper towels.

My sister had the same entree as I did, but her mother had a steak, which was a grade below what anyone would expect at even a mediocre restaurant. There was virtually no marbling in it.

As if the food weren't bad enough, the waitress was extremely rude, not at all knowledgeable, and when she finally stopped being rude to me, I think it was because she'd taken a few shots. When I asked if any meat was in the soup, she looked down her nose at me and didn't actually answer. When I asked what was going on with the catfish they had on their menu, she mocked me by saying "what do you mean 'what's going on'?" All I was trying to find out was what flavors were being implemented with the fish, since the menu had very poor descriptions that were limited to what the products were and how they were being cooked. She stumbled and almost tripped against the back of my chair at one point. She made me incredibly uncomfortable.

The worst part of all of this is that they still charge steakhouse prices. Not a thing on the menu was under $10, which you would expect in a high-end restaurant, but the treatment, atmosphere and--most importantly--food we received was extremely sub-par.

I really hope that an employee of Wine & Roses sees this review and seeks the help of Restaurant Impossible. I would much rather see this place get turned around than see it close down.
