United Community Ministries is a private, nonprofit, community-based social service agency. It provides employment placement and training, developmental child care and supportive housing services. The agency additionally offers homelessness and child abuse prevention programs. United Community Ministries provides emergency services that include assistance with food, clothing, furniture, household goods and infant supplies; financial assistance for rent, utility and medical needs and budget counseling services. It also offers computer skills training sessions and supportive services for people in transitional housing. The agency has provided services to more than 8,000 individuals and over 3,000 households. Operational since 1969, United Community Ministries is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children. It is located in Alexandria, Va.
