Amy Biehl High School is a college preparatory public high school, founded in 1999 in the spirit of Amy Biehl, a young woman who attended high school in Santa Fe, N.M. and died tragically while working to end apartheid in South Africa. The school uses a thematic approach across subject areas that teach students to apply and demonstrate skills and knowledge. Its educational curriculum comprises studies in art, humanities, math, physical education, science and Spanish. The school offers scholarship to every student who completes two college classes at the University of New Mexico or Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute. The students complete a variety of service projects involving learning in and from the community, during their 4-year stay at Amy Biehl High School. The Cultural Properties Review Committee awarded the school with the heritage preservation award for use of the old federal courthouse and turning it into a public school. Amy Biehl High School is located in Albuquerque, N.M.
