One of Akron and Ohio's largest selection of men's and women's hats and caps. With over 10,000 in stock to choose from, we're sure you'll find something for every style and price. In 1908, Dan Kelly, a representative, and organizer for the North American Hatters Union decided to settle in Akron, Ohio. He opened a retail hat store named The Hatterie and a manufacturing company named United Hat Manufacturers.Located at 140 and 142 South Howard Street in the heart of downtown Akron, both companies would soon become fixtures in the areas business landscape. After the United Hat Manufactures closed in 1929, the retail store continued to sell mens hats and also added cleaning, blocking, and renovating to its repertoire of services. In 1936, The Hatterie was forced to move to make way for Akrons first Walgreens pharmacy, eventually settling just several doors away at 126 South Howard Street in the Quaker Oats Building. After returning from World War II, Dans son Bill Kelly took over the business. After being located on Howard Street for more than 50 years, the store was once again forced to move, this time making way for Akrons Super Block, Cascade Plaza. The Hatterie found residence this time at 121 South Main Street in 1959, and it is this location that Bills son Dan took over as President in 1982. In 1990, Dan again moved the store to 2196 Romig Road in the Rolling Acres area, this time adding a complete line of ladies hats to its stock. Finally, The Hatterie moved to its current location near Chapel Hill Mall in 2006.

Great Place! Great Service!

I was wondering where to get a new old timey fedora and thinking I was out of luck, when I googled hat stores and found this guy! I tried on a bunch of the nice ones, and he was kind and not at all aggravated but my trying on so many. He found my size and went with me on the style...I sometimes couldn't figure out why exactly I didn't like one in favor of the other. Then he whipped out this awesome fur felt fedora that was exactly like my old one that I have beat up for 30 years, and told me how not to do that. The prices were great for what I got..the more economical ones were ok...but not after trying the better ones. And he boxed them up, and was cool that the boxes might just become kitty homes and not hat boxes. Nice to find someone that appreciates old timey too.
